Tour Overview

The world’s oldest wine, straight from the source

Armenians have been making wine for more than six thousand years — the oldest known winery on earth still sits in a cave at Areni. This relaxed four-day journey follows the grape from that ancient cave to the small family cellars of Vayots Dzor, with plenty of brandy, fresh-baked lavash and long, unhurried lunches along the way.

You’ll taste indigenous grape varieties found nowhere else on the planet, meet the winemakers pouring them, and eat the food that belongs beside them — straight from the tonir and the sizzling khorovats grill. It’s a trip designed for travellers who explore a country through its table.

You travel by private vehicle with a licensed guide, stay in characterful boutique hotels, and enjoy every tasting, meal and site fee already included in the price. Easy-paced and endlessly sociable, it works beautifully on its own or as a flavour-packed extension to a longer Armenian trip — and can be run as a private departure on your own dates.

Day 01
Yerevan — brandy & the market
Arrive and dive straight in with a guided tasting at the legendary Ararat brandy cellars — the cognac-style brandy once poured for Churchill — then wander the colourful stalls of the GUM farmers’ market, heaped with dried fruit, spices and sujukh. A welcome dinner pairing Armenian wines with local mezze rounds off your first evening.

Day 02
Areni & Vayots Dzor
Head south into wine country. Explore the Areni-1 cave, where winemaking began more than 6,100 years ago, and the cliff-side Noravank monastery glowing in its red canyon, then spend the afternoon tasting at two family wineries in the company of the very people who make the wine.
🏠Overnight in Areni
Day 03
Trinity Canyon, lavash & khorovats
Discover more of the Vayots Dzor cellars and the boutique wineries of the Arpa valley, then turn to the kitchen: bake lavash in a traditional tonir and share a khorovats (Armenian barbecue) feast with a village family, the wine flowing and the stories long — a warm, hands-on immersion in Armenian hospitality.
🏠Overnight in Areni
Day 04
Departure
Enjoy a slow breakfast and time for one last Yerevan coffee before your airport transfer — ideally with a bottle or two of Areni wisely packed into your case to continue the journey at home.
